New Cryo‑EM Capabilities

May 15, 2026

The Preclinical Drug Development Facility (PDU), IN-MOL-CELL, has recently expanded its infrastructure with advanced cryo‑electron microscopy equipment, opening new opportunities for high‑resolution structural biology research.

Thermo Scientific Glacios™ 2

The centerpiece of this investment is the Thermo Scientific Glacios™ 2 Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), a next‑generation instrument designed for modern cryo‑EM applications. With a resolution of up to 2 Å, Glacios 2 enables detailed visualization of biomolecular structures and supports a wide range of techniques, including singleparticle analysis (SPA) and cryoelectron tomography (cryoET). Integrated Smart EPU software streamlines and automates data acquisition, significantly increasing throughput and efficiency while ensuring consistently high‑quality datasets.

The cryo‑EM workflow is further enhanced by the Leica EM GP2, a high‑precision plunge‑freezing system for reproducible preparation of cryo‑EM samples. The instrument provides precise control over temperature and humidity, enabling the formation of optimal vitreous ice and maximizing data quality.

Together, these new instruments establish a complete, state‑of‑the‑art cryo‑EM platform at IIMCB.

We are proud to offer this cutting‑edge infrastructure to support innovative research projects and strengthen national and international scientific collaborations.
